hello all , hope your summers been better than mine . I spent 2 years waiting to build my 360 la motor , We got it in and broke the motor in had 7 hours tops on motor and in 2 minutes the valve train /roller rocker adjustment studs backed out and took out motor .UN FREAKING REAL. some how some 1 tried to rethread 3 rockers and adjusters popped right out taking out pushrods and valve train .
So here is my new delema ; builder is taking 2/3rds responsibility ,but I did supply the rockers . Time for a rebuild again. I am asking for HELP and OPINIONS HERE ?? Ok hughes cams has there roller rockers on sale for$ 540.00 , and Harland sharp has theres on sale for $639.00( just to let guys know) , I am looking for a reference if any 1 has used either of these 2 sets on sale if any 1 has used or recommend 1 or the other ?
The Harland sharps are a needle bearing fulcrum , and the hughes are not and dave at hiughes has rite ups and is telling me , on needle bearing fulcroms being a problem spot , being a weak spot on the bottom taking so much pressure that the bearings tend to break right under the shaft at the holddown . Is this a SALES PITCH or a real problem ??
#2. I am still thinking on using the Comp cams k20-225-4 and lowering my lift a little from the 545 where I was and going to a closer to 240 duration because its a street car and wont see a track but 1nce or twice a year and I do not have headers and now cant afford them for sure with the rockers granading the motor .
On top of all that we had the bad storms here , We just got basement water and some tree damage , But with my hip and back problem I just didn't need this motor problem as well . I am running hydro;ic flat tappit lifters , 995 duel springs , but just really cant understand what happened when they worked fine on my 340 for last year until we pulled the motor . I was wondering if the roller didn't over ride my valve stem and caused it ???
if we over looked a pushrod not sitting in the pocket right . what we blue printed looked ok , they seemed to ride centered but weather it was mechanical or human error
im not experienced enough to know .but its pick a new valve train time and with some input mabee it will go better this time , We didn't find any damage in the new RHS HEADS , but do wish I had bought them thru brian at imm than buying from indy for more $ than brian quoted me . here is my setup give me your thoughts on name brand and cam there is 6 or 8 guys you know who you are I hope you will reply
4.030 K B hyper pistons , RHS HEADS 62 cc , , 10,2 static comp , 165-170 psi , street performance , 3-3200 stall , m1 intake , 650 dp holley right now , No headers 65 BARRACUDA 3000 lbs , 9"x27" tires , 3;23sure grip , pump fuel , hydrolic flat tappet , 3 speed auto manual cheeta TSI built tight gears trans , 1.5 unknown roller rockers yet ,
looking for a hot street type cam .
please give me your brand opinions comp cams , hughes , mopar performance racer brown ??? and your lift and duration or special grind #s , and wich set of roller rockers you pefer the hughes or the Harland sharp or another and its a LA motor and no roller lifters . please give your thoughts on what may have happened , and wich wpould your next cam be with this combo . thanx all and have a safe 4TH HONAR THE SOLDIERS AND PRAY FOR THE MIA . lets pick a cam for a hot street car have funn

on my 416 I have indy rollers and my cam is 550 lift and 250@50 I set my valves once a year around 1500 miles and they are always loose .I also have a 340 with a cam close to what I just described with a set of 273 stock rockers and they are usually on the money.

do you happen to have the # on that cam set yet im at a toss up $ for $ i think i would want to go roller , my next biggest question is what is the differance between the retro fit rocker and the lifters they want $600.00 for . thanks jimmy /// Jon wish i had never sold my 69 340 this 360 been 1 problem after another

Just based on what I have gathered, the hardness of the shafts and needles is important for needle bearing rockers. If the shafts are not hard enough, the needles will dig in and it all fails rather quickly. But, they have been used for along time, so someone makes them right! We will be checking our PRW AL rocker shafts at a few hundred miles and again after a couple of thousand miles to try to catch any developing surface hardness problems.

Of course, the Crane Gold rockers seem to have a good reputation all around, and are needle bearings for the stud types and non-needle for the shaft types, so that says (to me) that either works if done right.

BTW, Crane does make rocker repair adjusters for the LA rockers; it has the 5/16" ball tip but a 7/16"-20 tip adjuster thread so you can open up the adjuster hole and put these larger thread adjusters in. PN is 66770AS-16; p 322 in their catalog. Not sure if you could use these on your present rockers or not.

I tried Crane gold rocker 1.6 on my 340 with RHS head modified by Brian at IMM engine. The contact point at the valve tip was wrong, ended with Hughes roller rocker, everything seems fine, car is not ready yet.

I'm using, Hughes roller hydr cam, retro-fit roller lifters and custom pushrods. Expensive but no problem yet.
