Today I hauled the Dart to Jackson TN for T&T, about a two hour drive. For the last week the weather has been unseasonably warm and today was no different, it was in the low 80's at the track with 18-20 mph head wind..

The track was great, these guys do a great job on track prep, the drug and sprayed it full length three times before I left in the late afternoon. That's more times than Paducah drags and sprays 100' on race night, I've never seen them spray it for a T&T.

The best 60' the 434 has ran until today has been 1.397. With the track being good we kept tightening the rebound and it kept picking up. On the fourth pass it went 1.348. with the rebound on my Viking front shocks set on full tight. After this pass we worked on rear shock settings and didn't find anything that it liked better than what was in it on the 1.34 pass.

My buddy Mitch videoed every pass. In slow motion it was wadding up the radials so we went from 19 psi to 21 and the tire looked better but the 60' didn't pick up, the et did pick up .01.

All in all a great day, I met some good people and got lots of good comments on my car, it was the ONLY Mopar there. Plus the track owner/operator came by and thanked me for coming, this has never happened at my local track, Paducah KY.

Red, I hauled it. There are just to many things that can go wrong to risk driving it that far.

I apologize if the way my first post was written caused any confusion. I edited my original post.

          Nice job.

“In theory”, that 6.29 would be solidly into the 9’s in the 1/4.

The run in the video.......it sounds like there is a very slight hesitation at the hit.
Might be another hun or two if that were gone.

Good ear Dwayne, you are spot on. The carb has a BLP BX4 main body with a 1.59" venturi and I'm thinking it's to much on the hit. I'd like to find a good used 1.75", four corner idle base plate and metering blocks to put my old 950HP main body on ti test against the one on it now. I still have the notes from the dyno pulls to set a good base line for the carb if I can find the parts.

Nice job! That is gettin out!...
And I know it's nice to be appreciated when you're there...
I normally do TNT or a small 6 race series at the track. It gets virtually no attendance..
But when I go to the Mopar Nationals there's a crowd and they're all cheering you on on the way back down the return Lane and it is a great feeling of appreciation...

I’ve never tried one of the BLP bodies...... that being said, a 1.590” Venturi 4150 carb seems pretty big for a motor that size.

My ported old school annular 850, which has a similarly sized Venturi, requires a certain level of “finesse” on the throttle pedal to get a really clean hit.
If you stomped on it fast, it would act just like yours in that video.

Please tell mitch to hold his camera the other way, like an intelligent person. Or, better yet, use a real video camera and a zoom function.
(If you cant tell, people using crappy technique to video drag racing is a pet peeve.)

Question - would a wider rim or narrower tire reduce some of the tire wadding? I always heard radials like a rim that is close to the same width as the tire. Your rim looks a little narrower than the tire. Some of those RVW cars really stretch the tire too.

A drop from 1.397 to 1.348 is an awesome thing.
We call that around here a “shit ton of time!”
            That’s great!

Thanks guys. When I built this engine I was hoping for 6.30's with 1.33-4 60'. It's exceeded what I and others thought it would et and mph. It's taken a while to get there (3 years) but my goals have been met. Now I'm not sure what to do. LOL

SSG, the 325's are on 15x10" wheels with a 3 1/2" back space. When I mini tubbed it the rear width was ordered to be able to use a 15x12" wheel with a 4 1/2" back space. The sidewalls are shot on my tires but I do have a new set of 275's that will go on this winter.

Rmoore, it hasn't been on a 1/4 mile track with this engine. It's best 6.252 @ 110.02 and a 1.397 60' in better air on a different track.

Rumble, the track was great. I doubt I'll ever see my local track anywhere this good even on race night.

oley, it's a R1 block, 434", ported Indy heads and intake, Comp solid roller 263°/271° @ .050", .711"/.719" at the retainers, 11.2-1. It was built for and runs on pump 93. Make a post and list what you have and what your goals are. There a bunch of sharp guys who will happily help. I consider myself the blind hog that finds the acorn once in a while. LOL

33, Mitch has ground up built and raced more fast cars than anyone I know, so I have no doubts about his intelligence. He went with me as a favor, the video's were to help me learn what my car was doing and to see the effects of changings being made. I appreciate him taking the time to help me out.

So you are at the slowest setting on rebound? I found instead of running say a 6 cylinder from t bar I run the stock 340 bars. I still get full lift but because it has less stored energy the nose climbs slower. Might bring you back into your shock adjustment window.

I should have read it more closely, yes you said that you hauled it there, my mistake, But it is still very impressive.

That 108.95 mph vs your best 110.02 shows that with better air and a hooking track you may be able to lower your best et 6.252, to maybe 7 hundreds lower, so if Jackson is having a T&T with killer air you might consider another trip there. maybe 6.teens in your future ,anyway awesome car Justin

The drag radials...do you recommend them over bias ply slicks?

My car is faster on radials IF the track is good, if it's not it's a crap shoot. It works well on mediocre tracks on slicks. When I ordered tires I considered ordering QTP's but I'm thinking the local street car stuff requires radials.

I normally run on a poorly prepped track. earlier this year something happened to a valve in one of the fronts so I sent them to Afterworks in Texas to be fixed. While they were there I had them revalved for no prep surfaces. I'm running 273/318 bars but do have a set of 340 bars if needed.
