I just got my motor running today. It's a fresh rebuild. It seems to be running great but there is oil in my coolant. Not a ton but enough to make me worried.

If my head gasket got fucked somehow would my car still run just fine? Is a little oil normal after a rebuild? I did not do the build, but the engine did come to me with the head off of it. A professional also put the long block together.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Don't get scared yet,I had a brand x car, same thing but after a couple of warm ups it went away. Good luck

Any oil is bad. That being said It could have been some assy lube or ?? in the block. I would monitor the problem very carefully. You can also run it for a couple of heat cycles and change the coolant. Then refill and see. I would say at worst case you may need to change the head gasket.

My son bought a stock car and we built a fresh motor and this happened to ours to, Ended up being oil in the bottom of the the raidiator that must have got there from the old motor. Boy was we happy when we drained and refilled the coolant and the coolant stayed clean :-D

Don´t know but if the head gasket is bad, wouldn´t there rather be coolant in the crankcase then oil in the cooling system?

could be the timing chain cover or eveen the intake gasket you need to keep an open mind and explore any places where oil and water flow closely together

Thanks guys,

The car is running pretty well, I drained and refilled the water and I'm going to keep an eye on it for a bit. It doesn't appear as if there is water in the crank case, but it does bug me. If it stops or I figure out what's wrong I'll keep you posted.

I will post some pics of my fluids tomorrow.

I forgot to mention that after I filled the coolant, it was coming out of the intake and exhaust studs. I drained it then used teflon sealant on the studs and now that has stopped.

Could this have caused the oil water mix somehow?
