Hello, I am restoring a 1972 340 Duster (auto on the floor) and have a some questions for all the Mopar folks. This car is a matching number car as far as I know and I do have documentation. Although I'm having trouble finding the stamped ID number on the motor. I think I have found where it is but I can't really make out the numbers. Also, the car is in the body shop right now and I am wondering what to do with the color. It is the gold metallic color GY8 and has never been repainted until now. So here my main question, would this car be worth more with the same gold color since its a matching number car or should I paint it a more desirable color??

No doubt it will be worth more with the original colour, but it's your car so paint what you want. There is a lot less cars with the GY8 colour so I think it will stand out more in the original colour.

And welcome to FABO wrussell.

Welcome to FABO! Yeah, you should paint it for what you're plans are for the car. If having an original numbers matching car is important, keep the original paint. If you can't stand the original color, then paint it a color you'll enjoy.

I'm not sure about the 1972 VIN numbers being on the motor. Use the "search" function, and check the How to's on the site. I know KrazyKuda did a very good thread on numbers.

Again, welcome to FABO!!
