I recently acquired a NOS pair of Kelsey Hayes brake drums as part of a larger local parts buy. The numbers cast into the drums include KH125944 and 97455. The machined surface measures 10x2" which leads me to believe that they are for 10x1.75 shoes. Here's the kicker, they aren't 5x4" as you would expect, but instead 5x4.5" with the correct BBP register.

Any idea what the application is? Hopefully the pics below are helpful

Yup. 73 and up big bolt pattern A body.

Every online reference I can find shows that 73+ A-body was 10 x 2.5" with 4.25 bolt pattern.

I just had a fella from another site PM me that these drums are for 66-70 B-body with /6 and 7.25" axle and have been discontinued for decades, unable to confirm though.

Ok. Then keep reading them resources.

If you interpreted my response as a challenge to your knowledge, that was not my intent. I tried to find a listing for BBP 10 x 1.75 drums or shoes for 73+ A-bodies as well as F, M and J bodies and had no luck. As I was looking, I got a message from another forum and I simply shared it to see if anyone from FABO could corroborate it. I have since been able to confirm that the '69 Coronet with /6 was available with 10 x 1.75 drums on the front, still available as Bendix PDR0018 which share the same critical measurements as what I have here.

I'm just a dude trying to piece together a solid driver on a budget.

Peace

Oh no. I don't have anywhere NEAR that ego. LOL I just threw out there how they came. I'm working on A body 10 X 1 3/4 brakes right now on a modified Ford 9". 1 3/4 backing plates and brakes all from an A body. As far as I know, that's all the A bodies came with, was 1 3/4 wide shoes. To my limited knowledge, the 2.5" shoes were b body stuff. I'm sure one of these guys will correct me if I am mistaken.....and that happens a lot.

Oh and I need to include mine is probably not a good comparison, as I am retaining the small Chrysler bolt pattern, but on a Ford 9" rear end. ;)

My online research so far seems to suggest that when the BBP 8.25 axle replaced the 8.75 in A-bodies axle for the '73 model year, the 10x1.75" brake setup died with it. All listings on Rock Auto and NAPA seem to back this up, that said factory oddities of all kinds likely exist. Honestly, I want the Doc Diff 10.7 disc setup but it's out of stock.

That has some correct information.
Yes there were /6 equipped B-bodies that used BBP rear drums with 1x1.75" shoes.

Shoe & lining package for all 4 brakes was unique because of the combination.

Rear wheel shoe & lining package was the same as A-bodies

Whether those finned KH are for Chrysler or another manufacturer, I don't know.
KH made OEM and aftermarket parts for all of the manufacturers. For example Ford also had a 10 x 1.75" rear drum. Shoes are virtually the same, but aspects of the drum are most likely different.

Here's an example of the SBP version - aftermarket, IIRC Wagner.
Sorry I don't have an inside view

There was also a version with wider flange or lip that sometimes shows up for sale. Pictures here: "Bell" style drums

Here's Centric's dimension's for the SBP version. For the BBP should be the 4.5" bolt pattern and probably 1/2" holes for wheel studs.

Given that these drums I have have the Pentastar cast into the front edge, I reckon it's safe to say that these are the rears as denoted above. Thanks for the clarification.

Your online research maybe entirely correct, but that kinda goes against what I've always seen......and that's certainly no huge surprise in and of itself. lol

Gents new to the thread and new to the forum. Hello. I’ve been looking at exactly this now since I discovered a pair of AMC drums fit on a B body 8 3/4. If you search for drums for a 1988 Jeep Wrangler you will see they are identical to the OP’s photo. I will be looking deeper into this but I believe these drums can be used on a B body flange space axle with an A body backing plate.
