For years, I ran a 1971 Charger 22" 2 Core Radiator in my '84 Dodge D50, with an .060 Over 11:1 Compression 273 and I had to limit my Town Driving during the warm months to short distances or it'd overheat.

I'd flushed it many times and the radiator was clean (but must have had a blockage somewhere inside), had a Mechanical Fan with an Electric Pusher Fan and couldn't keep the truck below 230 in the summer (ran 220 in the winter, and would warm up to 220 in about a mile of driving with no thermostat). I figured the 273 had been bored out too far and I had no hope of keeping her cool in the summer.

A couple weeks ago the radiator caught some debris while I was driving and it punched a hole in it. I calmed down, dug into my wallet and bought a Champion 3 Core 22" Aluminum Radiator for a Charger and replaced the radiator today.

It definitely needs a thermostat now, it wont warm up at all. I let her sit and idle for about 10 minutes while the choke opened up and I talked to some friends. Then I dropped off some stuff for another friend, and then drove it home. Probably 8-9 miles, plus idling those 10 minutes when I first fired it up, and idling the whole time I was dropping the stuff off, when I got home it still hadn't registered anything on the temperature gauge.

I think it's safe to say, that with a thermostat it'll probably function normally and I could finally safely put the A/C system back in the truck too

Good deal, I don't know if I would have dealt with that issue for years tho. What is your fan set up now?

Still got the mechanical 6 Blade solid fan (off a 340 Duster with A/C) and a small 10" Pusher Fan in front. I removed all of the seals and rubber that I had installed before (I had glued rubber between the core support and old radiator to seal it to the core to direct as much airflow as possible through it)

I have other 4WD's (broke down at the moment though) and my '84 D50 was miserable to drive in the summer anyway without A/C, the heat that rolled through the firewall and floor turned that truck into an oven in the summer. Yay, I can finally put the Condenser back in and hook the A/C back up!
