Ive always been a John Deere person. Ive had my share of them and they have always treated me good with no big issues. I currently mow 3 yards each week with mine getting done twice a week. My yard is about 1/2 acre of grass, the other two yards I mow are 3/4 acre of grass and a 1/3 acre of grass. All are neighbors so I dont have to trailer to get there. This year I may have to help out my mother in law to try and help her save money. Its my choice to do this, but it requires me to load and unload and trailer across town. So Im selling my tractor which is an all wheel steer 48" bagging tractor and Ive bought a Toro Z-Master 52" bagging zero turn. Im hoping this will all but cut the mowing time in half. Its not my first Zero turn as I had a Simplicity about 15 years ago but I never liked the turn marks in the yard it left. Im hoping Im over that now as Im not as concerned with that as I used to be. At this point time is more of my concern. I was never able to get everything done in one night where I think I will be now and if so I will have an extra night to work on the car. This thing travels almost double the speed with a much faster blade tip speed. Now I just have to hope it cuts as well.

IIRC, John Deere is one of those manufacturers that doesn't release its maintenance manuals to the public ? (Apple too) or even independent shops. I may be wrong but thats some BS right there.....Of course a riding lawn mower probably doesnt have alot of high tech stuff that cant be figured out on it anyway.

AJ, it has whats called a suspension seat. It's good size and is adjustable. Very comfortable with plenty of up/down travel

You don't think I didn't see that coming? lol. I was just wondering who it would be, and how it would be worded,
glad it was you.
have a little john deere lawn tractor that is about 7 trs old, nothing special, but has been a good one so far. I have changed the oil/ filter 3-4 times, and put one battery in it. We have a zero turn 6ft. wide john deere industrial at church that I have been mowing for the most part lately, still takes about 4 hrs to do. That thing is a great machine !

I got married for a reason. So I could get fat and lazy in my old age and she needs the exercise more than me................ BAM!
No actually lawn-mowing never crossed my mind, in the days leading up to the proposal, but that's another story.lol.
My wife likes to mow the lawn, with the push-mower; but last year she mentioned that it was getting harder. You want to imagine how long it took for me to go out and get a used Self-propelled walk-behind? Hyup, less than one mowing.
My solution to the head rattle, is watching her azz rattling around the yard; good times at my house.

The twice a week is not because I like it short, I mow at 3" but my yard is very thick and grows like crazy in the spring and early cooler summer nights. Im sure the fertilizing I do helps that but I love to have a very green thick lawn. And a lawn with straight mowing lines and the use of a striper makes me feel good!

I operate a Golf course in Northshore chicago. I own all john deere. Less maintenance and cheaper than Toro or worse Jacobsen.
Respond more if in need of education,

Dave

mycuda,
I agree with the low amount of maintenance for the John Deere's and as I said in the first post I have had no major issues at all.
With that said for some reason I could not fall in love with their zero turns.
I guess I will find out what costs and maintenance will be involved with the Toro Zero Turn mowers. I thought the seat felt much more comfortable and every one I test drove seems to be smoother. I didnt drive a new one from either manufacturer because I decided not to spend that much cash on another mower.
Now the main response to your post is that I am very jealous that you get to spend your time on a golf course. Ive always dreamed of that. I think golf courses are the most relaxing place I visit and Im their about 75 - 100 rounds per year.
I may take you up on the need of being educated on the Toro's. I found out today that Toro parts are just as expensive as the JD stuff is as I ordered filters for both side drive units and Hyd fluid. I bought 2 front tires and also got tuneup stuff for the 24 HP Kawasaki. I want to get it ready for the spring and hope to get many years of mowing with it.
Thanks,
Rod

Residential is a different market, I failed to say. But as long as you have ample distributors in your area all good!
Alot of areas do not have a John Deere dealer nearby, hence less popularity for residential.
