I installed a after market volt meter in my 75 duster and it does not use the same wires that my old gage used. I want to put a fues in-between the two old wires for just in case. What amp fuse suould I use ? Or should I solder them together ?

Thanks Bill

No fuse. That wire may power your entire cars electrical system. Bolt them together and apply a very good thick wrap of quality (I prefer 3m) electrical tape. If you cut the ring terminals off you could solder. That wire is not fused and is always very hot electrically. If it grounds out a fire will follow.

Actually, you probably should. Did you bypass the ammeter AND ALSO add a wire out in the engine bay between the alternator and the battery?

Look at the simplified diagrams in the MAD article:

(There IS two pages to that article!!)

If you bypass the ammeter, AND add a wire under the hood as mentioned, there now is a situation whereby there IS NO fuse protection at all for the original red or black ammeter circuit, because the added bypass wire now feeds power in parallel, from the battery (relay stud) to the alternator stud, up the original black ammeter wire, to the new junction.
