No 2nd gear?

Just picked up a 2000 Durango 2 wheel drive 5.2. The trans has no 2nd gear. Is there a valve body problem or will it need to be rebuilt?

If you have 3rd gear and I believe a lock out over drive and first and reverse works.
I bet the valve bodie is in need of a cleaning (stuck plunger/piston or a broken small spring in the valve body, I am not up to date on the new trans but I think first and reverse work on the same band and 2 and 3 works on another band.
Does it skip second gear and go straight to 3rd ?

Yea it goes into 3rd but you have to run the rpms up until it does.

Not likely a valve body problem. Pull the pan and check the front band strut or burnt band. Could also be a stuck governor.
