I built the 340 for my Duster by the book, got the special tool to prime the oil pump before i installed the engine, rotated it with a drill and got oil out of the sender hole in the block like expected. Six months later I put the engine in, crank over the engine with the starter about a dozen time and get no oil coming up to the sending unit ( I installed a tube/guage since I don't trust idiot lights). A new pump was put in during engine rebuild. I can't figure out why I don't have oil pressure. Could it be any of the following, or does anyone else have ideas?
1. could the pump have lost prime sitting over that long a period and I just need to crank it longer?
2. The engine has a 90 degree oil filter adapter for fit around the headers, is there some trick/angle to putting this on to line-up for oil flow?
3.Is it possible that the intermediate gear (oil pump drive) some how is not engaging the oil pump.

I would not crank any longer you will ruin stuff.........use the tool and prime it again....then get back to us....I am not sure on the 90 degree cover, you should be able to put on anyway you want.....

Whoa..you primed it SIX months ago..STOP cranking it and prime it again!!!..i even prime my motors after just sitting for couple of weeks..get yourself a reliable oil pressure gauge too..and don't start the motor until you are showing good pressure on the gauge...

You can put the adapter in any position. It'll work in any position. Your oil pump lost prime. That happens most anytime you let one set very long. Prime it and pray you didn't take a bunch of life out of things by cranking it dry.

1) Yes
2) No, mine is at a wierd angle for the spitfires. Makes no difference
3) No, the distributor would not go in if this was the case

I had that happen to me before and the oil pressure guage tube got clogged and wouldn't let oil flow through. DONT DO THAT ANYMORE!!!!!! Your going to screw up your motor.
