Not sure if this the right place, but it applies to things other than automobiles. I hate seeing "no reserve auction" and then the opening bid is $22,000. To me, a no reserve auction starts at $1 and sells no matter how I it gets. Setting an initial bidding price is establishing the reserve...
That is all, just wanted to vent...

I agree.

Using your example, 22k is effectively the RESERVE!!!

DUH!

I believe they don't want to quote a Buy it now at that price because they hope to get a bidding war. I usually wait until it don't sell and then offer them half of their start price. Make-em feel bad about what they could have started it at.

Usually if two people want the same item they will keep bidding because they feel its worth more money than the other bid. And they just don't want to get beat . Its a competition thing between people. No one lets the other out do them. He'll learn.

Everything I ever put on ebay starting low sold. A standard dodge dart wheel started at $9.99 sold for $410.00. Items like that make up for the items that don't bring much. I am way ahead on Ebay.

I haven't sold on there for quite a while. I got sick of the Ebay and Paypal fee's forced on me. User is sk34066 over 700 feed back. I rather meet people .

I agree with everyone above. I always start my auctions at $1 and NO RESERVE. Write a good ad and put plenty of relevant keywords in the ad and hope that a few people get into a bidding war. Has always worked for me in the past.

I start mine at the absolute minimum I'd accept.

I'm not listing stuff to lose money.

But I don't pretend there's "no reserve".

If no one bids, I either keep it or adjust the starting price.
