Messing around, cruisin' the interwebs and looking for used John Deere parts this morning, when somehow this popped-up:

1976 Pontiac Gran Prix SJ. And in black, no less!

I'm not a GM guy, and I've never owned one of these, but in the back of my mind I've always kinda lusted after one.

And now I'm wondering if anyone else has a non-Mopar car they've always "kinda-sorta" wanted but never gotten around to buying.

I've always liked the Grand Prix as well, and a few years ago there was a 69 just a few doors down the street from me. It was parked in a carport for several months when I got a chance to talk to the owner. He was maybe 21 or 22 years old and didn't know much about cars, but he said that the engine had lost oil pressure and he didn't have any tools or knowledge to fix it. He was considering selling it because he needed a reliable vehicle for a daily driver but I didn't have the room or the cash at the time. Car had a 428 and turbo 400, very solid body, interior was pretty rough. I still see it around here in the summer months.

I had a 76 Cutlass Supreme that was a fun car, same platform as the GP.

I had a friend who drove a '75 "Gutless" (sorry!) Supreme in High School, and he absolutely hated the round headlights. He always wanted a '76 or '77, but as far as I know he never bought one, as he still drove that '75 in '87, last time I saw him.

The list of cars that I would like to have is looooong!
I had a chance to buy a 69 R code Mach 1 when I was about 17, but dragged my feet too long and it was sold. (Dirt cheap)
My asshole brother sold his 71 Mach 1 429 SCJ 4 speed drag pack car for $1800.00 when I was about 15. I would have bought that in a heartbeat. He also sold a 70 Roadrunner convertible, 70k original miles, plum crazy with a white top and interior, 383 with a 3 speed stick for $1000.00 a year later.:BangHead:
A high school classmate had a 69 Mustang with a 351W and FMX that he offered me for cheap, but I didn't have the $.

The neighbor three doors down from us has a '57 2 door sitting in the side of his yard. Don't know the model, and it's probably a bit rusty, seeing as how it's been sitting in the same spot for God knows how long, but as far as I can tell from the street (100+ feet away), it appears to all be there.....

He also drives OBS Ford trucks, and since I have three of them and I'm currently parting one out, I've been meaning to go over there, introduce myself, and ask if there's anything he needs for his trucks before I haul the "parts truck" away. If you'd like me start a discussion with him on his '57, feel free to shoot me a PM.

Edit/update: I walked over there and knocked on the door, but no one home. Regardless, the car is '56 post (210?), and the lower body on it is "gone".

Probably a hundred or so, most recent "should have" was an LS powered Austin gasser (at about half what I thought it was worth).
But the most memorable/regrettable? Was many, many years ago. .....
Was on a hotrod used car lot on Colorado Blvd in Pasadena. A corvette, with a powerglide. Don't sound much does it?
How about..... a maroon 67 roadster, wood steering wheel, side pipes, knock-off looking wheels (but weren't of course)...... and a Tripower 400hp 427 with factory a/c. (In a convertible! )The most powerful engine available that year with an auto trans.
Wanted $2500, would have taken 2200, but offered me $500 for my fuelie 57 with a fresh LT-1 in it. I passed.
That car is now an easy $150k.
 
I wanted on of these kit cars ever since the TV series, "The Prisoner" came out in the late 60's. I may have been about 10 or so years old. Purchased in a kit form and few simple tools and about 60 hours later you have a nice road/track car. Purchased about three years ago, doing a restore, hopefully back together this midsummer.

Around 1985 or 86 I came across a triple black, Gator grain roof 1970 Challenger R/T, U code with around 75k miles, 440 automatic, transmission was shot, could have bought that for $4500.00, but I was not working at the time.:BangHead:
 
More in keeping with the op's thread title, again when I was about 17 I had a chance to buy a freshly restored 58 or 59 Corvette roadster. Absolutely gorgeous car, pearl white with candy apple red in the side scallops, white/red leather interior, 283 with dual quads and a 4 speed for $17k.
Waaaaaay outta my price range, but damn nice car!
 
At about age 11 I saw a Pantera for the first time. I waited around for a couple hours for the owner, just so I could get to drool on the car, but no one showed up. I doubt that I could get my 6 ft 7 inches in the seat today, but I would sure like to try, same goes for the GT40 Fords. My brother and I had a discussion about buying a GT40 several years ago, when the 2005/2006 models were still somewhat "affordable", as an investment.

I owned one of these. Absolutely one of the most fun cars ever!
Not so fun story. I was in the Army, and when I was deployed to Desert Shield/Storm, I parked it in a long term "secure" parking lot that the Army insisted (I was told) to park it in. This was at Ft. Knox KY.
I get attached to XVIII Airborne Corp from my original unit in country.
We do our thing and when it comes time to leave, I thought I would return home with my original unit.
What happened was, I return back to the states with XVIII ABC to Ft. Bragg NC. Okay, I'll just go to Ft. Knox from there. I had to stay at Bragg and help with recovery and of course, deal with all the BS that comes with being in XVIII ABC.
A month later, I finally get to Ft. Knox and when I try to get my car, guess what was sold as abandoned.
It took awhile, but I would be paid for the car, but I never did find out where the car went. Someone kinda indicated that the car was sold to the Louisville Police Dept.
I ended up with a really nice blue Buick Regal, but it wasn't a Grand Am, and definitely not the girl magnet the Grand Am was.

WOW, I would be pissed.....................I was in the Army myself and have seen some stupid things.
