On my Ford engines with 2 piece main seals, I was taught that you dont install the seal flush with the block or cap. Instead, you install them so that 1/2" or so sticks out so the parting line doesnt match up with the parting line in the cap/block. From what I have read on the Mopar side, you guys dont do that trick. Have I not read enough to know or is there a reason you dont do that with 2 piece main seals?

I've always done that with 2 piece seals, too. Just don't put the joint anywhere near 6 o'clock.

Are U working with a 360 or a 340? 360 yes U can, 340 has a pair of "tails" on the 1 half of the seal, therefore U can't "clock" the seal differently other than straight across.
