So I've finally tracked down a 2x1bbl Offy intake for the old slant, I just LOVE the way they look. But it is listed as being for the 60-68 170 and 225. What is the reason, if any, of it not being able to go on my 73 Slant?
It was designed to run with the rod type throttle linkage, and pre-emissions. But it will bolt up just fine, and linkage shouldn't be too hard to figure out if you are running a cable.
Yup, that intake fits any slant-6. You're on your own for throttle and auto trans kickdown fabrication/modification and hookup. Plumbing's easy and intuitive; do the Fuel line mod and add a "T" or "Y" to go to both carbs. Choke's not as intuitive; see here. For this intake to work well, you need two exactly matched carburetors, preferably brand new rather than "remanufactured" junk--good luck; they're getting hard to find. Air cleaners, use two of the "small and tall" '63-'67 units. Install a nipple in the threaded fitting in the crossover tube and run your PCV hose to it or, if you need that port for vacuum-operated accessories, just use a "Y" or "T" fitting to split the PCV hose into two and connect one to each of the carb's PCV nipples, which you'll need to make sure are not blocked. Make sure the manifold heat control valve is present and working correctly. Consider a pair of Dutra Duals now or later (gimme a shout if you're into it; I have a new pair on the shelf that I no longer have an application for).
