So I have a deep transmission pan on my 727. It's a MOROSO aluminum
DEEP sump pan.

I have a leak around the front of it between the pan lip and the transmission so I am changing the gasket.

It has leaked for a while and I just kept the fluid level up when it did leak.

Now I want to change the gasket again but I am not sure how much oil to put back in. I did not drain the cooler lines nor the torque converter.

I was told that 4qts is typical for this type of change...does that sound right?

I know your supposed to check in N when running to determine the level. Unfortunately I am using an aftermarket Lokar dip stick and it is impossible to get an accurate reading...it always looks like its over filled on the stick.

So anyone out there wanna set me straight on how much oil to put back in.

Yes I am measuring what comes out as well but not sure if I overfilled before due to adding oil frequently.....just looking for a base point.

Thanks,

without the motor running fill it 1" over the full line, that should get you about right when you check in neutral with the motor running. also paint the dip stick flat black so you can see the fuild mark. sand it a little first.

When you drain to get the pan off, refill some empty jugs with the amount you,ve drained. It should give you a close idea on how much to put back in.

I know this sounds abit cheesy, but if your stuck this is the easiest way to measure.Good luck.

with stock pan 4 qts it's gonna need that much before you start the engine then I think it is gonna need an additional 2 qts...best to add them one at a time with engine running and trans in neutral, emergency brake on and wheels chocked....check fluid several times as you add the additional fluid.........Wagg's

Thanks for the input.

I ended up at 5 total which was about equal to what I drained out.

Took it on a 140 mile trip yesterday...104 degrees out. Ran good and shifted clean so I think were back in business.

Take care this thread is done.
