Oil light flashing on my 340 mechanical guage says 45 lbs at idle warmed up at idle 50 at cold. Which do you believe?

Probably the gauge. You should check it with another mechanical gauge to be certain.
The idiot lights are just a contact with a spring behind it. If something fails it can trip at about any pressure.
They are cheap so replace it and check the wiring along the route as a short in the run. A short anywhere will cause the light to come on
