i have a 72 dart swinger, and the oil pan is leaking im am wondering how some of you have changed this out with that shroud in the way have you just taken the shroud off by tearing apart the ball joints and steering to get the shroud out or did you just pull the engine?? im thinking just pull the engine, but wow just to do the oil pan gasket....also has anybody also tried the split-lock bolts before???

I'm not sure of the shroud you are referring to but I have dropped my oil pan by removing the idler arm from the the K-member,pushing the drive link back, jacking the front of the engine up a little bit with a block of wood on the edge of the block so the pan will clear the K-member and crank main cap.

Put the car up on ramps or jack stands.

Remove front end linkages for super superior clearance

Unbolt shroud and hang on fan...out of the way

Drain rad fluid/remove rad hoses.

Losen motor mounts and raise engine. Pay attention to things like fuel lines and ground cables that may not reach far enuff when you jack engine up.

You can do it from there, Been there done that. Of course, I didn't know what to do ethier and found this about the best way since I ended up this way.
You may vary slightly on parts removed/unhooked.

But every time I tried doing it in the car, it always leaks a little bit afterwards. When you remover the motor and turn it over, you can clean and then seal the pan better.

Maybe its me but I never got a prefect seal doing it in the car but might try once more this summer since mines leaking kind of bad now, has to be better than it is now.

I sure wouldn't want to pull the motor just to change a oil pan gasket. It can be done without leaks trust me.
