oil pressure gauge works sometimes

my oil pressure gauge seems to work, I have already check my oil pressure with a mechanical gauge so I know I have good oil pressure hot and cold, have a new sending unit installed, when I start the engine the gauge goes slowly up towards hi then just as soon drops back to 0 have checked the wiring, that appears ok could it be a faulty gauge this is a 69 cuda with the rally dash.

The sending unit could also be faulty. Kim

Could be that you have a sender for a warning lamp and not a gauge.
