Okay, what is this thing on my bail?

MOPAR faithful: Anybody know what this tag means? It was on the bail (cover retention clip) on the master cylinder of my 1974 Duster with power disc brakes. What do the numbers and letters mean? Thanks.

It’s not a rebuilders tag. My 75 Scamp has the same tag and the master cylinder and booster has never been out of the car. It’s a date code tag and someone will chime in with how to translate that to a date.

Back in the '60s-'70s saw them occasionally on new cars. They were factory. I will be following for more info.

Yep, they all had them at one point in time. Occasionally you will find one with it still intact. My 73 still wears its original master.
I think it was a date code, production line info. If you got it keep it on there.

It's definitely factory original to my car, as is the master cylinder. The first owner confirms this. I just can't figure out what date "0112" is, and what the "4409C" is. cruiser

I cant help with the date code, never did understand that numerical system they used. I think you need a chart of some sort to decode it.

It's for power brakes and the first line is the last digits of the m/c part number.

"Mastershake" on Moparts wrote an article on correct master cylinder castings and part numbers, back when he worked for big brake company. He's made some updates and corrections since it originally came out but still a good starting point. I *think* the pdf version has the corrections.

The 0112 is the last four of part number 3580112 for power Disc #4409is the 10,000 day calendar for 23rd of aug 74

The 1976 model is different from earlier models.
The master cylinder, calipers and proportioning valve were changed in 76. The caliper pistons increased in size which probably required a new master cylinder and proportioning valve.
