This is what happens when you use a Napa MO3000 rotor and don’t get your distributor cap back on exactly straight. :D

The MO3000 rotor has a 030 longer tip.

Oops. Why do they even make that rotor unless it's for a different application?

I know it keeps the burning of the tip and cap contacts down from the HEI spark jump, but I’m pretty sure that’s not why they made it.
Good question.

I'm pretty certain that rotor also fits some Ford applications, but that wouldn't explain why they make it longer.

An annoying story from the old days

In the 70's, stationed at NAS Miramar, San Diego, we had an E6 with a 64 Chev. He had taken it to Aamco Transmission, gotten raped on the price, and next time he and I were on duty, showed me the broken rotor. "How, why, etc." I told him Aamco had not been careful, dropped the engine and the distributor had hit the firewall.

AND A FEW DAYS LATER, he was back and turned out after I'd talked with him, the poorly re-installed battery cable had welded to the hot exhaust, ruined the cable and the BATTERY. Aamco would not do a damn thing.
