I'm replacing the rear carpet in the cargo area of my 66 Barracuda. The chrome filler tube cover is really hazy and starting to get some rust spots. I'm thinking about painting it black to make it sort of disappear with the carpet or should I just leave it be? Re-choming is not an option as the cost just doesn't seem worth it.

Buff it out with some 0000 steel wool- you'll be surprised how well it shines up, and will take off 90% of those surface rust spots.

Never dull is also a great product that will clean all sorts of shinney Metal.

I had mine rechromed about 1 year ago for my 66 Barracuda. Cost was like $100.00.
Mine was just worn chrome from no love ever. Not rusty or pitted. I had the money and just did it. In hind site cleaning it was possibly an easier job.

I'll give both recommendations a shot. After staring at my picture for a bit. I got to thinking, maybe I can find a stainless steel pipe that will fit in it's place. Didn't really notice when I had in my hands, but it really looks like an exhaust tip.
