Here I go again, (I'm sort of in, build engine mode) SO, withthat, I'd like to see if anyone knows what the set up was originally on the Little Red Wagon 426 Hemi used when the truck was FIRST built.

See, I have 2 of these models, and was looking up the real truck, and have found that some show it to have Hillborne injectors, OTHER picture shown it to have a full Blower like a 6-71 or something....My question is, what type "intake" did the very first one have?

Because, I want to build this as close to the very first "original" Little Red Wagon as I can get it but the pictures say its been rebuilt, but not to say what or how it was rebuilt.....

Can anyone help me with this? I, myself have never seen the real truck, in person only in video's or on TV.....And then in most cases were either "look-alikes" and not even owned by the Bill Golden or his race team, as it has been retired for a while now.....SO, with that all said, anyone know what the 426 Hemi was actually built as, it went into the very first A-100 they used?

    Any help be greatly appreciated....

Bill "Maverick" Golden is a member of this site. He's actually held a chat night before. I haven't seen him post in some time, but he is a member. He would certainly know the answer to your question.

    Holy shit! Rob that's AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It be nice to have the actual guy, himself, aid me in a damned foolish ole model, but I'd be grateful!

It sure would be nice to see this happen with the help of the man, himself!

So far in my reading i have seen the following, and I quote:

the 426 Hemi, was seen to have the following intakes over the years:

    >> High RPM, Cross-Ram intake.
    >> Hilborn Injector intakes, single PER cylinder.
    >> Blower, 6-71 or something like. reversed "hat".

This is all that I've seen in pictures, nothing said about or dates to know when each one/type was used....

Now the question is, the year did this truck begin going down the quarter mile? As the High RPM Cross-Ram intake might well have been the "FIRST" intake that 426 Hemi had, as that was the way the Hemi was made to be for racing, anyway. could this assumption be correct?

when I was young and saw it, probably early 70's, Hilborn injectors with rubber balls to keep the crap out when not running.

Thats what the actual "kit" calls for, and comes with for the model. is the Hillborn set up.....I just want to see if there isn't something more I can do as far as detail on this model to make it closer to a time line as far as the early stages in, as it was built the first time..... As pictures of the real truck show different engine intakes and I would like to make it as it was first built....Kinda as a Icon, of itself, ya know?

I was his pit crew until 1967. He got the LRW the end of 64 and it had Injectors on it. He put the blower on the end of 66. What I remember most was the days of the 62-64 max wedge cars and the 64 hemi. He moved to Ark. in 67 so we haven't had a lot of contact. What blew me away was at Orange County hazing the tires on the tailgate around 900'.

Maybe look Bill up on here and send him a PM. If he monitors it from his email he will likely contact you. He's a super nice guy.

I was just getting ready to post that link. It says it started out with dual quads, then modified to Hillborn.

See this all is what I have gotten too,....

See the dual quads would have been a set up like this:

    Hi-speed Cross-Ram.

The Hillborn set up was and "aftermarket" set up so I wonder if it actually came to the LRW race team with the Cross-Ram and only lasted a short time?

From the same article on www.sweptline.com

Then on Allpar.com I found pictures of the blower 6-71 or whatever it is as far as numbers go...

I haven't found the Hillborn set up in pictures online, or well, not yet anyway!

But just as the websites I've read, all here the same, we know it had A, B, and C, but when? What was it "delivered" with as a racing machine?

I ask what it was "delivered" with as it has a dealership involved too...This is why I'm leaning toward that Cross-Ram intake....It sounds as that was used, for a very short time, and then changed for something thought to be.......better? I'm not sure how to explain that. BUT changing the intake on that 426, or multiple 426's would have that changed the "class" or style of race the A-100 was in?

If it were me, I would go Hillborn just for the cool factor.

The Red Wagon was built more for crowd entertainment rather than racing.

    Bruce,
I hear ya! I just.....I dunno, something different? Possibly the fact that the model kits included "Hillborn" injector set up is lacking seriously bad for details.....I dunno....

Maybe just something.....different? I might look into finding the Hillborn injectors that are better detailed as I'd like to make this a pretty substantial model for Contest use as well.....

I built mine from pictures in a hot rod year book. Bill was not driving it yet. 2 four max wedge motor and cut out vent windows. This one was an old IMC kit that I saved from the plastic junk yard.

    Hyper,
NICE save. any shots of how ya did the motor on yours?

Do you know who made it as far as manufacturer? IMC?

The kit you have, has "opening doors" which is a trait on models of the "Lindberg" company! Wonder if "Lindberg" bought the tooling from IMC back in the day?

    Thanks for the compliment.
I don't have any other shots, all my plastic is boxed up after my move and haven't unboxed it yet.

IMC was purchased by Testors and now owned by Lindberg.
Here are a couple of kit boxes.

On my kit I used the injected hemi and put an MPC cross-ram on it. I was able to save the kit and get it all working, doors, steering, and tail gate. These old kits are real tough to get all the parts assembled and working because the plastic was brittle and the stuff didn't fit too well either. Go on Epay and you can find other IMC kits.

Here is a link to an interesting model article:

    Good luck with your project!

    Hyper,
Thats AWESOME IMC was then bought out by Lindberg, makes sense if you look at the "Lindberg" line of models to the IMC line, seems to be just a "clone" from the old tooling....

I'll be keeping my eye out on that one now too! LOL

Your IMC model, was it molded in color? The early Lindberg stuff, was molded in color.....I have one of the early models in red plastic, (IT will get a red coat of paint....) BUT I got a newer one as well, and the plastic in it, is white! So....

It was red, but not what I wanted so I painted it. Good luck with your build!

Learn something new every day! This is early photo, before the wheelstander. You can even see something that looks like an exhaust system under the body.

Hey your both right!!!!! What the hell gives? Bill didn't have a overseas version did he??? LOL

The "exhaust" is an interesting addition,. as it (I thought) had "zoomie" headers....No real "pipe" per-se.....

Interesting, the things you'll find out with me looking to build a freakin model, huh?

    WAIT a minute..... BRB

Tried a reversed picture trick to see if that pic might have been taken "goofy" and the camera flipped it right way, and nope it won't work to turn out right to be able to read the words on the side of it so.....

    Interesting to say the least....

I know they really did mess with that A100 a bit to get it to ride down the track on the rear 2 wheels!
