Hey guys I went a lil over board with my file to fit rings and took a lil to much off one it's. all but one are .0275-.029 but one i got a lil file happy on one and it's .039 to .040. Should i run it or replace it
My books say, for racing top ring should be between .015 and .017, second ring .010 to .012. My other books say .010 to .020. Haynes manual states"excessive end gap is not critical unless it is greater than .040 page 2c-22" YOU BE THE JUDGE, HOPE THIS MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER, WALT:cheers:
Few books take into the fact of the design of KB pistons which I'm not sure that Joseph may be running but it sounds like he is. They have the top ring grooove moved up higher on the piston. Then the ring gets hotter and expands more so you have to run a larger ring gap. Joseph I did exactly what you did when putting mine together. I knew the machinge shop owner real well and went back there to buy one set and they just gave me an extra top ring. He said most of the time they have extras laying around. If you know your shop well you may try this. If not one piston ring set don't cost much.
