Would a .060 overbore 1970 340 engine scare you from buying it, hasn't run since the 80's kept in storage, no rust. Cylinders shiny and smooth still.

What would a ballpark reasonable price be to pay for something like this, I know there arn't much details but I thought I'd do a little homework before calling about it!

Thanks

I would be concerned that the walls may be too thin - I think the best approach would be to have the block sonic tested to make sure there is sufficient thickness.

That said.... if it ran that way before - I do not see what it would not run that way now.

It would scare me. That engine will not be able to be bore out ever again. I'd say the cylinders would have to be mic'ed to check for taper and wear and a sonic check should be done. '69 FSM says .040" is the most they can be bored although they have been bore more then that. I'd look for a 360.

Piston choices might be limited for a .060 over 340 also.

I am thinking of selling my 340 as a running engine for that very reason, and using the money to build a stroker 360.

I believe its already been running as a .060 over, so piston would be there to match, it seems like a one shot deal and certainly for $1000 there is all sorts of risks being taken buying it sight unseen.

Sonic testing isn't as common in Canada as it is in the USA, I've never actually heard of anyone offering that service, maybe some of the major engine rebuilders.

I"ll probably pass on er.

Thanks

Good idea to pass. Too much $ and too much unknown.

I'd see if you can score a nice standard bore 360. That would be the way to go. Cheaper and more piston choices. Makes great power. You just won't be able to say you have a 340 but that is the only down side.
