ok so my dart started over charging. My amp guage pegs to 40+ as soon as i bring the rpms above idle. Exactly what might I fry if I continue to drive? sucks having a 73 for a daily.

Deja-vuu.....continuity test the field terminals, make sure the ground field didnt internally short out, ive had that happen, second, make sure one of the field wires isnt shorted out, and 3, make sure the regulator isnt messed up and it has a solid ground....

id do all the above here and clean all ur grounds make sure u chip away paint and get solid contact ....and make sure before cleaning connectors u disconnect the battery ...

This problem is posed every few weeks. The answer is voltage drops thru the bulkhead connector, as mentioned (corroded terminals). Search past posts for more details.

The usual cause of this is heat in the bulkhead connection over time causes the female terminal to expand. Take the female connector out of the bulk head and squeeze it slightly. this should tighten it up for a better contact. Also while its out solder the connector to the wire. do the same thing to the male. They are pretty easy to take out. Male comes out with a side ways squeeze with a small piers. female with a real small screwdriver or pin pushed in on the little square opening on the one side.

Overcharging condition can be as simple as a bad battery too.
