Paint Color Opinions?

Hello everyone. I am trying to decide if I should keep my 1972 Demon 340 the original color, which was "Blue Streak" or something else? It is at the body shop right now. When I first started this project i was going to stay with the original color as we thought that we would be able to just sand the car down and shoot it. That idea was quickly shot down when the stripes were being removed as the paint just lifted right up with the stripes?? The person who had the car before me did not get a quality paint job, it was a "50 footer" at best! When that happened the decision was made to strip all the paint off. I started thinking do I really want to stick with the original color?

even though I am not a huge fan of this shade of blue. The question now is, what would you do if you found yourself in this position? It has white stripes, white and black interior with the snorkel hood and is a four speed.

Let me know your thoughts?
 
Personally I like the color and it would be worth more being painted the original color. It really boils down to what do you want. If you don't care about some loss in value and originality paint it any color you want it's your car.

Here is the deal. IF you are concerned mainly about resale value, keep it as original as possible to include paint color. What is more important to you? Having and enjoying your car in the exact color you want, or painting it blue with hopes that it will be worth a few more dollars someday? Of course, if you really like the blue, that is great.

I have a fender bolt that color & hood hinges and boy do I love that blue, basin street blue & blue streak. It is a very rare color. There's a 71 or 72 duster 340 up by me same color.
I'm a plum crazy guy if I had a demon, white stripe, black vinyl top & white interior
 
Here is a '72 Duster factory color: Gunmetal Gray.

Works well with different Interior colors including Blue.

Thanks for your reply I love the color black but as we all know its a bugger to keep clean,there is nothing that looks nicer when clean and shiny ! More than likely she will remain as mother Mopar made her and stay Blue Streak.

I have heard from others that it is a rare color? Is there someplace that has a record of how many cars were painted a certain color? Just curious. Thanks in advance.
 
Fact is its a survivor and collectible with the 340. So stock color makes the most sense, if you can live with it. Or take a factory color that you had ordered in 1972 to your taste, if you want to keep the car for a long term. I needed a while to fell in love with my citron gold zz1 on the Satellite.. .

Demon’s were lumped in with Dart’s for production number stuff. And Ma Mopar was terrible at keeping track of paint colors. For some years there’s better info, but it’s all by % and being lumped in with Darts really messes that up because paint color % was actually pretty different for different models.

Regardless, the info for ‘72 is especially bad. TB3, or Basin street blue, Blue streak or Petty blue was a fairly low percentage for most cars. And it doesn’t get seen as much as the high impact colors that everyone likes to use if they don’t stay stock.

Also, that paint doesn’t look to be exactly the right color blue either. It’s hard to tell from a picture on the internet, but if it’s a cheap paint job as you say it’s probably not very accurate on the color. So even repainting it the right color may change things a bit.
 
I like the bright colors / high impact colors like us or haters you can't ignore us LOL
