Has anyone done this? I am thinking that I would rather paint my bumpers than have them re-chromed. I saw the old Chip Foose show where they re-did a mustang and one of the schemes they used was a brushed aluminum. I was thinking something like that. Thoughts? Ideas?

If you sand your bumper, then apply a good coat of self etching primer, you can paint it any color you want. If you have rust or pits, grind / sandblast first, then etch prime, then fill. You can buy self-etching primer by the can at any parts store. I painted my rear bumper so it would match the front glass bumper.

My whole resto is in the baby "concept" phase right now but so far I am looking at black with white vinyl top, wheels will be a simple 5 spoke of some kind and will be black or a gun metal gray. I was thinking the same gray for the bumpers or the brushed aluminum. Of course that would mean the door handles and the chrome trim as well.

I saw a rat rod done with all the chrome scotch-brited to make it look brushed. It looked pretty good. Something like Exile Choppers makes their bikes.
