I installed a petronix 11 in my 63 Dart. was running fine for a while, but started to miss . I have all new ign parts except the coil. I bypassed the ballast resister, hooking the 2 wires together, miss is gone.. Do I need the ballast resister, thanks Jim.

The coil will now see 12 volts and a shorter/hotter life. The coil needs the resistor or it will die fast.

Read the Pertronix instructions. They burn out too if not hooked up correctly.

They put those resistors on for a reason and they dont go bad that often I still use mine, I just replaced the original on a 67 barracuda.

If you want the full benefit of the Pertronix II, change to a better E-core coil which runs without a ballast. You can find a cute after-market one for ~$20 on ebay or get one from a Magnum SB, GM (external coil) or Ford TFI. For the later 3, get the special connectors too. I think all E-core coils have a male HV terminal so need a different coil wire to the distributor.

I'm sorry my petronix is the original not the 11, does that make a difference Jim.
