Pickup truck leaf spring U bolts........

This morning I broke down the springs off the "too short rolling frame." The one photo--stolen off ebay-- is the spring plates. These are upside down, and stamped steel. The go the "other way up" on the bottom of the axle which is below the springs. So the slightest bit of mud that slops into them and dries forms a cup to collect dirt/ grime/ corrosive material. This is one of the U bolts out of those

yup. us truck guys have been putting up with that crap for years.

I bought a 72 Power Wagon a number of years ago and drove it 20 miles home. Got looking at it later that day and realized one front u bolt was rusted completely through and the other one on the same plate was almost rusted through. That could have gotten really interesting if it broke!!!!
