Hello I just received my head from the machine shop and with that they removed the thermostat housing, and placed it in a bag with the bolts and this thing, can anyone help me figure what it is and where it goes.

would it go where I have it placed in the picture ?

temperature probe in perfect working order,
the probe must be compatible with the gauge,
for a water temperature probe, its ideal location is closest to the upper part of the water gallery near the combustion chamber.
to properly control the operation, you can use a laser thermometer.

So I started my car today after putting it back together,( I had the engine rebuilt and I needed to swap out the intake manifold), and it sounds very accelerated like if it’s being floored, on top of that my temp gauge went skyrocketing after a 5 second run, and when turned off my gauge stayed like this(see picture) can that unit I mentioned earlier have to do anything with that ?
