I have a set of TRW L2322F pistons that I'm trying to measure but I"m not sure where to measure from to get the appropriate number. It seems though the pistons are somewhat tapered being the largest at the bottom of the skirt.

Anyone know where they typically take the measurements for piston Diameter?

Also another question. If you order say a .040 340 piston will the piston come 4.080 or do they factor in piston to wall clearance and actually make the piston smaller by the clearance amount?

Thanks

You measure them perpendicular to the pin bore with the pins out (in case one is tight - it might distort the skirt), about halfway between the pin centerline and the bottom of the skirt. Don't squeeze the skirts, they will flex.

Modern pistons have the clearance built in, so a .040" over 340 piston that needs .004" clearance will measure 4.076", give or take bit. Every piston should be measured before the boring bar is turned on!

Hope this helps.
