Plastic Trim Hole Plugs

I'm thinking about removing the GT trim off of my '68 Dart. It's pretty weathered and I'm missing the driver's door (no holes for it as door isn't original to the car). Well, to ensure I don't create a catalyst to rust, has anyone ever used like a plastic body plug? Do they exist? If so, how large are the holes generally behind the GT trim?

Nobody has used something like this? Or you think it would be too tacky?
