So I am finally done wiring my car after the choke wire shorted out an basically burnt up the engine harness. When this happened it caused my engine to back fire pretty hard. I know have a slight popping noise coming from what i thought was the carb. When I put my head over the carb the noise then sounds like it is coming form the intake gasket on the drivers side. My thought it that it possibly blew the gasket out near the exhaust cross over. The engine runs smooth and the exhaust sounds fine. I just don't want to make things worse buy driving the car around. Any body ever had this issue or have any ideas?

Here is a VID sounds not the best. At 10 and 12 seconds you can hear it the best

that noise near the end , beside the carb,, is exhaust leak,, tighten down intake bolts,, I think Wild&crazyguy is right,, heat crossover... does the noise sound like it's coming from lower, by the headers?

Thanks guys

I do have an slight leak at he headers but the noise we are talking about is not coming form the headers.

I always check to see that the plugs are tight when I hear those noises. Your header leak could be a loose plug.

Is it worth blocking the heat cross over? I see that i can order intake gasket kits with the plate. Is it worth ordering them in the kit or making them my self.

It will take longer for your car to warm up and run right (maybe 5 miles instead of 1 mile). If you live in a warm weather state/area I wouldn't use it. That being said I don't use it because neither my intake or heads have that crossover setup

It is very beneficial to block the the cross over, you will see a decent pick up in torque.
The engine will warm up about same pretty much, but the intake charge being colder now could make the fuel seem a lil less atomized and maybe give that lil delay to it when leaving the line.

But speaking of valve overlap...it is never a good thing for performance/efficiency to contaminate a cylinders intake charge with anothers exh/farts. lol
