How much cam can be used in a 318 and still have the power brakes to function properly.
Make it manual brakes. It will stop better and then you can use some cam.
I had a manual brake car ( 1974 duster). Front disc and drum rear and it stopped goodYup. My manual brakes have no trouble locking all 4, and takes less effort than my clutch pedal and I'm running front disk, rear drum.
I don't want to go real crazy with a big cam as the car is going to be a cruiser. I was thinking about something like 220*-224* duration at 0.050" lift.as much as you like, just fit an electric or belt driven vacuum pump to
CoolYou should be ok with 220 @ 050; more compression helps by increasing idle vacuum.
I had a 284°/.484" Mopar cam in the 383 that was in the ex-PoPo Dippy, engine needed a minute or two when it was chilly out before the vacuum was enough to go full assist, that cam is ~240°@.050. The 'teener will probably be the same around the 230°'s with a similar profile cam. Good manual brakes are the best, My choice for an A-body of Mine every time, no worries there.Cool
