power steering question

greg,

I have been working this recently, but from other direction - newer parts on early V-8.

Your pump is the TRW, used only until 1970(?) and only on the cast iron water pump (lower hose on driver side). I don't think there are brackets to mount it to the aluminum water pump (1971+?, lower hose on passenger side).

You can use either the Federal or Saginaw pump on your aluminum pump. Some say the Federal is more efficient. Some call it the "Chrysler pump". It looks like the TRW except a short slot and one bolt on the reservoir. I got a rebuilt one w/ reservoir for <$50 at www.rockauto.com w/ no core charge. Brackets are $75 (search for "PS005" I recall). Much cheaper used, but insure you get all 3 brackets and the bolt.

Pulleys are another issue that I am still researching. Depends on whether your car originally had PS, AC, etc.
