Thanks, I had a 904 trans, but I've seen 273 hipo autos with an 8.75,was the trialer towing package including the 8.75. A friend from back in the day said he saw A bodies withe an 8.75 rear in salvage yards? 7.25 rear had 323.with big 15 inch G series tire blew the spider gears twice.
This was helpfull,to find an old catalog for 1967 dealer options and price is probably impossible. After the second spider gear failure, babyed the rear end and then gave up and bought a 68 RR. Problem was I didn't know an 8.75 existed, and since I bought the Barracuda off the lot it's obvious I didn't know enough about the car. This question has haunted me,if I knew then what I know now I would have kept the barracuda and gotten the 8.75 rear.
My formula S was ordered with trailer tow package and the 8 3/4 was included in that, but I can't find where I put the original window sticker that I got when I bought mine from the original owner....
Finally have an answer thanks to Alaska TA, according to option broshure,if you ordered sure grip at $42.35 with th automatic you got the 8.75 rear,if you did not order sure grip you got the 7.25 peg leg. I'm quessing that a complete 8.75 was between 100 to 200 dollars at a dealer. Thanks for the help on a 47 year old question.
I have had a lot of 67's. These are just car I owned
Big block every one had 8.75,
4-spd every one had 8.75.
auto trans - w/formula-s, I have never w/o 8.75.
273 4-bbl commando, w/o formula-s, w/auto didn't have one.
273 2-bbl non formula-s I've never had one with 8.75, 2 had suregrip with 7.25.
Never had one with towing package to comment.
Thanks for the help and information, like I said have always wonderd how Mopar made the choices in putting the weak 7.25 in,so even with an automatic you could get a 8.75. But I'm quessing since I had the 6.95/14 narrow tires and you had the wider red streak, that also gave you the 14 5.5 inch rim. I had the 14 4.5 inch rim, which maybe they knew the wider tires would kill the spider gears is why you had the 8.75 open rear. I believe Mopar though with automatic and narrow tires you would spin the tires before stressing the spiders. But I used a bolt adapted to put the "G" 15 inch tires and the spiders didn't stand a chance.
