Primer question

-
I would treat it like bare metal. In the body shop we used to peel the paint off using 80 grit, then shoot epoxy. This left enough "tooth" for the bondo. You want your rust treatment to be in thie pitted rust. Be sure to work it in a bit.

If you dont leave the surface rough, you can be sure your paint wont stick for long.

Tell the truth, you really dont need that stuff. A good high in zinc primer should be enough.

Thanks guys, if that's the case then maybe I won't even bother with that stuff & use it for the undercarriage.

i go,bare metal 120 grit scuff with a d/a, etching primer, 2k urethane sanded to 400 grit or 600 grit wet, then topcoat. i aldo use a prep on the bare metal that has an acid in it to kill any rost that may be smaller than you can see. but only if i think i may have missed something.

We use SEM rust mort. Wipe it on and let it sit for 24hrs, Then wipe the panel down with lacquer thinner and prime.
