A few years ago, I purchased a hex shaft to prime my 340 after sitting over winter. The problem that I have run into is that after removing the distributor, I cannot get the intermediate shaft out of the engine. The intermediate shaft is tight, and resists pulling out using large needle-nose pliers. I can easily pull the shaft out of an older 273 that I also have using a large pair of pliers.

Are there any tools that would make this job easier, or any ideas from any resident web-site experts as to how to go about this?

As always, Thanx!

Suggestion:
A large pair of pliers can be a pain when you get the gear up to the dist opening. After using a screw driver on the slot (turn clockwise) to loosen, then get a extended magnet to left out.

Something else to ponder...the oil pump drive should come out fairly easy. If it doesnt, the bushing wasnt properly sized after it was installed...

That is a concern! I didn't pre-lube last year because I couldn't get it out. I hate to do the "squirt the oil in the cylinders" and "spin it over with the plugs out" routine cuz I've heard doing this is marginally effective at best!

Thanx for the input!
