I have a Barry Grant 650 Claw which has a crack in the main body. Since Barry Grant / Demon won't sell main bodies, I have been looking at Pro Form replacement main bodies. I am wondering if anyone has ever used a Pro Form main body replacement with Barry Grant / Demon base plates, and metering blocks? Thanx
Don't waste your time they don't work, just a Chinese copy of the same carb you have. How did the main body get cracked? Claws are at least 10 years old and had a short life span, there was a reason for this. The Mighty Demon replaced them and is, in my opinion the best carb on the market. We have even gone away from Speed Demon in favor of the Mighty Demons adjustability features. If you want more info you can visit the tech section of our web site at www.4secondsflat.com
Thanks for your reply! I do not know how it got cracked, but the crack runs across the face of the main body on the primary side! I understand that there is no way to mend concentracast white brass!? I did however put the carb back together after a thorough cleaning and combined with a clean gas tank, it runs well. Also, someone overtightened the Secondary float bowl and I'm missing threads on one of the 4 screws. I am calling today for a hard copy of your much recommended book! I have read Bohacz's book on tuning Demon Carbs, and while it is good, too many things are left out. I am hoping that your book is "the missing link"!
I've ran both the Demon carbs and a Pro Form carb. I had great luck with both of them, and actually plan on running a Quick Fuel which has a Pro Form main body on it. I would assume the metering blocks would work, but I haven't personally done it between the Demon and a Pro Form. I would call Pro Form and double check.
Quick Fuel has main bodies. I recently picked up a throttle body from them for a 650 double pumper and was quite impressed with the workmanship. Correction: Quick fuel no longer makes main bodies, but Holley does. http://store.summitracing.com/partd...925239+4294839063+4294858091+115&autoview=sku
Quarter, you are correct! They make their metering blocks and throttle bodies here, but use Proform bodies on thier carbs.
Ive also used a few of the proforms and they worked great-dont know about using them with a demon though.
