First of all im on a tight buget but i know ill have to cough up a few bucks for this project. I want to use mostly stock parts and some after market parts. Here's what i have in my inventory for the 360 build : 1978 360 LA block , dont know the bore size yet? Still have the crank and piston and rods that came out of the engine, going to use after market pistions .brand new air gap dual plane intake or should i use a single plane? set of stripped down 360 J heads with large valve ports 2.02's ports gasket matched and milled down but dont know how much since i bought them off a mopar buddy , carter 750 comp 4 barrel carb . What size cam should i go with? I want enough lope to be attention getter but dont want to sound like its dying at idle. And will use stock rocker arms and push rods . I was planning going with a 2800 stall? 727 auto with racing guts and a full manual valve body . I have an abody 8-3/4 rear with 498 case with posi and 3:91 gears any suggestions would help thanks

    My thoughts:

Measure block, may or may not need to be bored over size, you won't know till you measure. I am partial to KB 107 pistons, they would be a compression gain. Use the stock rods, have the big ends measured for correct size, if they are in spec, balance the assembly, push the pistons on and go.
Use an air gap dual plane, carb is ok. Heads, first measure the chamber volume, then worry about cutting them. You stated tight budget, leave the 1.88 intakes in the heads, cost benefit of going to 2.02's is iffy, gasket match is ok. It may be old school, but an MP 509 hyd cam is still an ass kicker, get matching springs.
Do a 904 tranny, it fits with no effort and they posses all the strength you need, if you use a 727, you have to "alter" the tunnel with a hammer.

Up grade your brakes, you want to be able to stop this

Lunati 292 bracket master 2 will get a nice idle and make good power.

This is a .030 over 360 with speed pro 2 valve relief pistons 2.02 aerohead jheads and the lunati cam. It should run 12s hopefully this summer.

Following this. I too am building a early 360, for my 66 B-Cuda. My block is ready to build, with smoothed out deck, and #3 sleeved, whole block bored out .030. Im also on a tight budget.

I would be surprized, if not shocked, if you can get away with stock pushrods and rockers, if the heads are cut and the cam is not stock.

I had to use .030" longer push rods.

Love to follow your build. I'm working on a 360 in a 65 Cuda with the factory 4sp and love the early A cars.

I made my own, kind of. I just bought some random headers for a 360, just for the mounting plate to head. I cut off offending tubes, and recombined the tubes and added some pieces of extra mandrel-bent u-bends. I had one slip fit tube for #1, which goes thru the gap in the k-frame. The key is to keep them as tight as you can to the block. That and about a case of beer.

We used 273 manifolds for now (choke choke) but my dad bought tti headers, still looks like a pita to install.

            My opinion is this :
            Speed Pro Chrysler/Dodge 360 Hypereutectic Flat Top 2VR Pistons+MOLY Rings +30 | eBay

Bracket Master Hydraulic Flat Tappet Cam - Chrysler 273-360 292/292

Trick Flow® by PAC Racing Single Valve Springs TFS-16901-16

Use the airgap, put some arp rod bolts in and other than that just basic stuff. The big thing with the cam is having something easy on the valvetrain parts with stock rockers. with what you are building unless you are chasing hp there will not be more than a few hp difference between similar cams.
