As some of you here already know I have this very rusty 65 Valiant that I inherited from my Aunt through my grandfather after he passed recently. It was sitting on his property since my aunt died in 2007. My brother and I were determined to drive the car from its resting place.

My grandfather had done some work on the car before he parked it and we were happy to find that it had new brakes (just shoes), points and condenser, and a rebuilt carburetor!

I removed the carburetor and took it home assuming it was going to need to be rebuilt.

We changed the oil, transmission fluid, transmission filter, spark plugs, wires, and we ended up rebuilding the brake master cylinder and replacing all the brake lines. We also upgraded to an electronic ignition system as well. We hooked a boat gas tank to the fuel pump with some fresh gas, added a new battery, and she started right up! We added air to the tires and did some final adjustments to the brakes and we were off! (Trust me this is the short version and it was not this easy)

There Will be Blood....and sweat...and tears, bruises, bumps and maybe a crushed toe. But hey, great job! Good ol slants never die, they just hibernate very well.

This thing would look so cool restored, but I think it'd look even better if it was lowered and painted black with black tint.

              You're close!
I'm actually planning on painting it medium turquoise and lowering it. (The tint is a given, espically here in Florida)

Ah hah! I now see what I was hitting with my drill trying to drill a return line next to the original through the torsion bar crossmember. Them's some Fred Flintstone floorboards!

Doesn't look as bad as I've been thinking it will be when I get to it.
Still not fun though it will be worth it in the end though

I got up this morning and made a quick hardware store run to pick up a new plug for my welder extension cord. Once I got home I started welding away!

Driver's floor pan in. I used self tapping screws to hold it down, spot welded in between the screws, removed screws and plug welded the holes as I went. Only 10 of the about 100 spot welds I did didn't penetrate; I'm pretty impressed!:D
                      IMG_5814.JPG
I didn't get as much done as I wanted to today but the rest of the floor should be a breeze.
