Hello All
A guy over here in Australia has a set of slightly used psi valve springs. done about 1500 k's. The specs are: 1.550 dual springs, id .755.. load is 150 @1.750 open load is 275@ 1.500 with coil bind at 1.190.
And he also has a mopar performance hyd cam mp296. has 521" lift and 296 " duration. denoted as an oval track cam. good power from 2800 to 6800. also mopar performance hyd lifters and mp cam break in lube new never used.
Now...I have a set of J heads with stage 2 porting 2.02 & 1.60 stainless valves + the valve stems have been milled down for cam lift, I have a edelbrock torker-II 340 & a holly 750 double pumper, All this is going on a 340 with 40up 10.5 forged pistons, My car is a 66 valiant that weights 2900 it has a 727 & 3.8 diff gears, I`m hoping to run high to mid 11`s
Will this cam & springs work on this setup that I have?? I have a set of yella terra roller rockes to use as well, Would a mechanical cam work better for what I want? If not, Can you suggest a cam that will.
All help will be very much appreciated.
Cheers Doug

Where can I get a set of mopar yellow terra rockers?

I would use comp #995 valve springs, shim to 1.68 and get more seat psi... like 130'ish
Ideally 130-140lbs seat and 315-340lbs open with that purple cam

The problem you'll probably run into with those springs is the diameter unless the spring seats have been machined bigger. Stock spring seats are only about 1.4" and most aftermarket springs designed for Mopar heads are only 1.48"~1.5" o.d. so most machine shops generally only machine them to 1.5" unless you tell them differently.

These are my heads, I don’t know if there been machined or not.
They came with these springs & heaps of shims...There are only 14 springs 2 were lost when the guy pulled them apart a few years ago...That’s why I’m looking for another set.

the guides have been machined for the inner of a double spring, so it looks.

stay away from rusted springs...they will break sooner than later, the pitting is a sure tell wether or not to use them.imo

A mild surface dust of rust is not bad, but surface damage/pitting is.

you're missing some springs, so....just buy another set for $80-$90 of the comp springs.,,,you gotta remember the springs cycle and loose an average of 7 psi after a lil heat cycling.........the last set of mopar '847 springs I used lost 12psi, had to shim them up.

You might also want to throw a retainer and set of locks on and measure the valve spring installed height cause you never know how deep they machined them. They might have just had the minimum taken out to run springs with a 1.7" installed height or they may have taken them down more so 1.8" installed ht. springs could be run. That's another thing you need to know when you select valve springs.

I haven`t checked that, I will do that tomorrow.....There is about 20 od shims that came with the heads so they might have machined them down a bit, Thanks for the heads up, This is all a bit of a learning curve for me.:thumrigh:
