I'm hoping to pull the 318 in two weeks for the 360 swap. I was wondering if there is a significant difference in level of difficulty between pulling the engine alone, or pulling the engine and tranny together?

Seems like either way has its advantages, but what are you guys doin? I will be using my existing 904 with an externally balanced, hi-stall torque converter (thanks for the part number, fishy68)

Advice / opinions wanted...

Thanks

Mark

if your doing it alone then i would drop the trans first then pull the motor. if you got a buddy its pretty easy and quick to pull engine and trans together. one work the head the other work the tail.

hell i put in my big block with headers and trans bolted up. just had my dad come help me tilt the trans down.

I did my 318 and 904(as a unit) by myself and it was the first time I had ever pulled an engine.
Go slow and look for wires that you forgot...there will be some.

Depends on whether you "need" to do trans work. I have a 727, so a little bulkier, here's what I do.............

Disconnect, etc, (I have a hoist), and for me, hard to reach rear bell bolts. So I pull rear crossmember bolts, and let down the tail some on a jack. That gives me room to pull all except the two large bell bolts on the bottom.

Then jack tail back up and stick a couple of crossmember bolts back in.

Now take a ratchet strap and tighten up under the bell , with the strap around the T bars. When you lift the engine with the hoist, tight the strap. Be sure to unbolt the converter, make a "clip" to insure the converter does not fall out.

Last time I did this, didn't even remove the hood.
