NEW Street Hemi grind cam for a small block LA engine. 284 degrees of duration. Direct Connection/Mopar Performance cam. Around 1995 I had a short block 340 built and then life intervened. It was all bagged up and when I finally got back to the project in 1999, I took it back to another machine shop to complete the build. They suggested that I use a particular Comp Cam, and so we took the Chrysler cam out and I boxed it up. This week responding to a Want ad here I pulled it out, but the person decided to specifically use a used cam, so here it is for sale. I'm looking for $125 plus the ride. The cam lobes are still covered with cam lube from putting it in the shortblock

Lift information please. Looks like an old school purple shaft. 65'

you are stretching my memory, but I think .484 My old Mopar Performance catalog says: "P4120231 284/284 O-lap 60 centerline 108 lift 0.484/0.484 Hydraulic cam"

That's a good cam for a street performance build engine! 65'

I used one in a different 340 street car and liked it - bit of a lope but decent street manners

The 284-484 cam was one step above the Hemi Grind. The real early Hemi Grind had 284-474 and somewhere along the line changed to 280-474 if my memory serves me right. I have my real old Direct Connection books packed away some where that would show this. They were sold cam only, no lifters. I put one of the early ones in my 68 GTS 340 4 speed with 3.55 gears. I always thought it was the perfect cam back then. I would be interested if it was either of the Hemi Grinds if no one else gets it.

Got my Dart Sport into the 12's in cool air with this cam.

Were you planning to use this cam with a cross ram?

Actually I built that short block before I found my first STR-12. That 340 was originally built in the late 70s with that 292 duration DC cam and it was not great as a regularly driven street car. The 284 cam was a step back to make it more drivable, but like I said it never got run in that motor. My street car with the cross ram has a 340 4 speed cam and I think that has been one key to making it a car that I can drive hundreds of miles to a show or run.

When I bought my 360 the guy told me it had a purple shaft. I don't see a Mopar part number.
All the cams sold by Direst Connection/Mopar Performance (see link in post #12) were "purple shaft cams" and the blank was actually painted purple before it was ground - kind of a Mopar signature (see pic of the cam for sale). It was kind of hard to fake because the paint runs cleanly to the ground lobes and journals. I seem to remember that all these cams were ground for Chrysler by Racer Brown.

Thanks for that. I have a virgin STR-12 that I got a few years ago that I plan on using with my 340 4 speed. Sorry for interrupting your sale thread.
