How much will a race carb help on the track vs. street carb?

OP's! Misread that, erased the first response.

There's a good number of racers here that will show a dropped E.T. slip and increase in mph.

Right now I have a edelbrock 800 cfm on with the best of 12.2 @111 in a 67 barracuda . Just want to see if i put a race carb on would it get in the 11,s Thanks

Whats in your build a 410 stroker should already be well into the 11's..not a fan of Edelbrock carbs either..

I thought so too. It has ported eddies, rpm intake ,voodoo retro fit hyd roller dur 231/239 .535/.550 hughes 1.6 rollers , cheap headmans 3.91 gear. Ran about the same last year with .480 flat tappet stock valve train somethings holding it back? Maybe some 1 7/8 tti"s needed too?

What are your 60' times?
Is the Edelbrock 800 a AFB or AVS model?

The bigger tube header would be of help as well as an 850, but to be honest I'm not ready to recommend such parts for use right away. I think it maybe possible to get into the 11's with what you have.

I am not a racer and never have been, but over the years I have seen and found myself that Holley and carbs designed like it are pretty much always faster at WOT.

I'm not a racer either , just go to the track about twice a year for fun . Its a 800 afb . 60ft around 1.7 I know not good but my converter is only 2800 to 3200 stall. Also I have that petronix points conversion in it wonder if its holding it back? seems to start and run good. I thought my trap speed would be higher. Double pumper for the 60ft help?

Ok..the 3.91's are good..i would go with atleast a 850(i prefer Quickfuel carbs) what is your timing set at?? more converter would help too..just for comparison my "stock stroke"360 runs 11.70's..you should be well ahead of that..

34 total advanced . Do you think that the petronix would hold it back some ? Yeah I was thinking mid 11's might the rockers a little tight they were adjusted for street . I read some you guys running 950hp holleys with no problems.

Timings ok i run mine at 35..once rockers are adjusted correctly they should perform fine street or strip..have a few friends running 950 h.p. i've been very satisfied with the Quickfuel 850 running it on both my 360 and 416..

What tire are you running at the track and what is the diameter? Do you know what the trap RPM is?
What converter and trans are you running?

Running 275 60rs nitto drag radials seem to be hooking up when I drop them down to 18lbs. Trap rpm about 5,700

What is the cars weight?
Did you dyno the engine?
Where does power fall off at?
At 5700, is that your max rpm?
I was wondering if you could pass the line at a higher rpm to lower times. An example would be a smaller tire or more gear like a 4.10 or 4.30. Which may not be helpful. Depending on your engine.

The 60' times need to be dropped!
That would be my first area to attack for a better slip. I believe that your right there. About to do a high 11.

A friend of mine just removed a hog converter out of his big block Dakota and installed a purpose built Turbo Action and dropped the ET over 1.3 seconds.
As others have mentioned its all in the tune. I have found a DP helps getting out of the hole. I run a Demon because it was a cheap CL find. Spent a lot of time fine tuning my combo. Ignition curve first, then carb baseline, then pump shot and squirter combos for best 60', then traction issues since engine power increased when I got the motor optimized.
If you go the holley base route try and get a carb with replaceable air bleeds etc.

Thanks I will try couple things like carb and maybe my 14" bald street tire for more gear. Just looking for something i missed.
