Hi all. For guys that have subframe connectors in their a bodies that go through the floor and drag race (See pic below). How are you placing the plastic racing seats in the car? When adding the roll bar main hoop for the back of the seat to connect to, the seat will be sitting right on top of the subframe connector.

Also with NHRA rules do you just use 4 bolts through the floor with the racing seat? Since there will be a gap between the floor panel and the seat are metal brackets used? Trying to picture how everything will look with the subframe connectors welded in like this. Thanks

That's a photo of my 66 Dart, when we were installing the subframe connectors many years ago.

Believe it or not, installing connectors that way does not interfere at all with the factory seat mounting locations. I haven't yet mounted a pair of aftermarket seats, but I don't anticipate any additional issues due to the subframe connectors. For instance, there shouldn't bet any of the gaps that you describe. Hell, even if there is, if you can fabricate and install a pair of subframe connectors and a cage, fabricating seat mounts won't be an issue at all.

@mopowers Sorry about using your photo. I just went to google images to show what I meant. I don't think the subframe connectors would interfere with the stock seats or the brackets for the stock seat. My issues is when a car is setup like that how can someone install the black plastic racing seats or the kirkley aluminum racing seats.

I'm looking for ideas for the seat mount fabrication but yet good and safe to follow and pass nhra rules.

You'll find that the subframe connector only protrudes through the floor well past where the back of the seat will end up. Maybe others will post photos.

That area is of no concern to mounting front seats. Zero, nada, none, etc.... Unless your in excess of 6’8”.....
Racing buckets should pose no issue ether.

@rumblefish360 Thanks I am 6'3" and I do need the seat lower so hopefully the cross bar is within the 4 inches from my shoulder per nhra rules with the black abs seats that i have if not I may go with aluminum seats. For me I do see the seat resting on the subframe connector.

Is this a trick question? I just don't see how the seat will be directly on the floor. This is a complete non-issue like what rumblefish said.

I am also on the tall side, 6'5" and I have maybe 2" spacers under the back of my seat. My frame connectors are under the floor pan. I don't think I could have mounted a seat with the connectors in your picture and not hit my helmet on the roof. I also have my seat moved back for leg room.

This seating position does fine for my son in law at 6’2”.

If this ain’t good enough for you.......

Good day sir....
