Hi all,

I have a set of trim rings on my rally wheels but I am not sure if they are mopar or not. Below are some pics.

I also have a few questions.

1) My wheels are 14'' x 7'' SBP rallys and I need to know what the correct trim ring width is? The ones I have now are 2'' wide but they dont really look like they go deep enough in the wheel.

2) Do all mopar rallys have a hole for the valve stem or do some of them have a U shaped opening for the valve stem.

3) Is the outer edge of the correct trim rings flat only or is there supposed to be a contour where there is a flat edge with a narrow lip as well.

All your help is appreciated.

As far as i know chrysler trim rings all have the hole , with the ridge around the trim ring , for ralley,s and 500,s . That is all i would ever use , because everything else looks like Chebby and Phord. Another thing i thought i would mention , i never heard tell of 14x7 small bolt ralleys , Did you buy them from one of the new reproduction companies , like Stockton.I have a lot of small bolt ralleys , big bolt , 500,s ect , but never seen a 14x7 .

sorry I got that wrong. I have it posted elsewhere correctly. Good catch KT.

YES. I have 14'' x 6'' wheels. Sorry for any confusion.

I haven't seen any stock ones that width either......14 X 5 1/2 is the only SBP rallys I've seen.

All I can say is that it is hard to measure a wheel while it is on the car and has a tire on it. If there never was a 14x6 rally wheel than I must have the 14 x 5.5 wheel. Thank you for the lesson mark.

Here is a factory 14x5.5 rallye rim with factory trim ring.

excellent. thanks for the pics. That helps a lot.

So while we are discussing this what other wheel sizes were there for rally wheels and what cars came with what? Did A-bodies come with 14's and 15's. B-bodies same question.

The good quick info on this site is exceptional. I am diggin it.

Factory rallye rims came in a few sizes, but the small bolt pattern only
came in the size of 14x5.5
The large bolt pattern rallyes came in 14 and 15 inch.

I think the large bolt pattern came in 14x5.5,and 14x7
15x6.5
15x7

The 15x7 inch rallyes came on higher performance models of
the Cuda,Challengers, and B-bodies with bigger motors.(440's and hemis)

The big bolt pattern 14 inch rallyes are usually found on later models...of the
A-bodies.
(1972 and on.)

There is 2 styles of center caps also. The sombre (spelling???) and acorn.
And the center cap has two different shades of gray depending on the year.
The darker gray (argent) is from the later years I believe.
And finally there was two styles of trims rings used on the 15 inch rallyes.
Chrome finish, and brushed finish.

Whoever the industrial designer was who came up with these gets an A+ in sublime geometry. IE, if you have mirror polished chrome trim rings, the reflection of the perfectly angled and shaped holes forms a complete circle when viewed straight on.

Magnificent!!

Try finding trim rings for the late Chrger/Cordoba 15x6.5 wheels.
x6 leaves a gap worse than what you have, and x7 won't phisically fit.

i love the 15x8 super coupe wheels, second only to the most stylish factory wheel ,the 15x7 rallye with the cone style centercaps, im my opinion.

HI all,

I still have questions about rally wheels and I need more help. I just received another set of trim rings but they just don't look right to me when they are on the car. Here is what I am seeing.

First of all there is a little lip at the deepest part of the trim ring, so it doesn't look like it goes all the way into the wheel. Is there supposed to be a lip? Is this a one year only thing? Was there one year only trim rings, rally wheels or center?

Second, One of the trim rings has 4 sets of pointed teeth for mounting, where the other three are what I am used to seeing with multiple tangs all the way around. The first mentioned actually fits decently, but I can get both kinds on the wheel.

Third, the face of the rings is stepped. Three of the rings have the first outer step as 1/4''. The next step towards center is 3/8''. The odd ball trim ring has it 3/8'' and 1/2''.

So what is correct here for a 72 scamp. From the pics above mine don't match up. Could these wheels or trim rings be from a later year mopar? Would a 72 scamp have polished or brushed finish trim rings? Sorry for all the questions. I'm learning.

thanks

Go to the bottom of the page in this link. Part #4483. The owner says they measure 2 1/4'' deep when measured on the table and 2 1/2 when measuring the curve.

The site also states that they fit 5.5'' and 6'' wheels, which adds to my confusion. Maybe they fit other cars as well? From what I'm hearing MOPAR only made 14 x 5.5'' wheels. Am I missing something?

one on the left looks correct, never seen an original with the mount like that on the right. Also, the stem hole is an oval, not a cut out or an elongated circle. Has a slight lip inside. These are some drivers I have and believe to be original. I have 2 more shallower ones that have 5 mount clips and open cutouts for the valve stems, dont know originality of those.

Do early Ramcharger rims have a 6" width or are they 15's?

The oval stem hole is 1 1/8 x 3/4'' for the lone trim ring and 1 x 3/4'' on the other three. All of the rings have a little lip for the stem hole. Is the inner most portion of the trim ring supposed to have a lip or should it be smooth?

None of the ones in your photos look to be correct for your wheels. They should have the evenly spaced, multigripper type mounting but there should be no lower lip. Brushed stainless is the correct finish.

Heres the skinny on Rallyes for anyone who needs it...........

In 1970 and 71 the only size 14" Rallyes you could get were 14x5.5", LBP or SBP. The only other option in 70 and 71 were 15x7", which for 1970 only were also the only Rallye's to come with either brushed or polished trim rings. All other sizes came with brushed trim rings only.

In 1973 a 14x6" Rallye was introduced in LBP and only available on B-body cars. 15x7" continued to be the only size available in 15", at least until the 75-77 model years when they list a 15x5.5", and a 15x6.5", which I believe to be the later style C-body wheel.

Included are a couple pics of correct 14x5.5" Rallye wheel trim rings. No inner lip, one groove around the outside and brushed finish. To address the fit issue, these would also fit the 14x6" size, but would not finish at the center hub correctly.

Hope all this helps, Geof

Wow, just learned a ton from this thread! The center caps that were mentioned earlier, which style came first?

the cone style centercap was introduced in 1970 and for 71. in 1972, the knuckle style cap was introduced. it took over and continued until rallye wheel production stopped in 1977. i dont believe the 72 style rally wheel cap was available in a 4" pattern

Yes, the pentastar centers were indeed available in the 4" pattern in '72....in fact, they were the only ones available that year.

a buddy of mine had a 72 satellite that was ordered with rallye wheels and it came with the knuckle style caps.
