Got my car finally in my name in Oregon. The Oregon DMV also allowed me to put back the original 1967 Oregon plates as custom plates. Had to pay an extra $100.

My question is this: The old license plates have a Year tag from 1967 which I would like to keep displaying. Do people here have a way where I could drop down the new year tag when I'm driving it around and a way to pull out the year tag when I want to display the 1967 one? I was tossing around maybe a velcro folder with magnets, but maybe someone here has a better idea.

Thanks!
Paul

In MD, the month/year decals must be attached permanently to the tag. However, we can register our "period correct" tags for a one time fee of $13.50, but have to have a current set of tags in the car. They issue us a registration for both, but only the current tags have to be renewed every 2 years.

In California, this is called Year of Manufacture (YOM) where it is required to have a registration sticker from the year of the car

The DMV includes two ears to attach to your license plate for the registration year and month sticker.

I didn't like the look and decided to use the registration sticker license plate in front of the car and use the current year and month directly on the plates

In NC you register the vehicle with current plates. You keep them in the vehicle, but mount your YOM plate. There is nothing that ties you, or your registered vehicle to that plate, traffic cameras be damned!!

Texas, the plates need to be a matching set YOM and in like new condition. If they are restored, and repainted, they need to be repainted the exact color scheme that they were for that year. Texas changed colors every year back then. For example the 68 tags were black with white lettering. 67 was white with black lettering.

You take your restored plates to the DMV, they inspect them to see they are in useable condition, and charge you a $60 one time fee. No little registration stickers on our tags.

Same in IL

Just keep your current tabs in the glove box and show them when asked by law enforcement.

The correct answer is "ask your state DMV" because that is the only answer that matters. "What we do" in Idaho has nottin' ta do with what Oregon wants, expects, demands.
