Rear diif help

Hey guys,

My Dad and I just finished restoring my 74 duster. It has the orginal 318 in it of course rebult with more hp but my question is what rear diff does it have in it. All i know is that when i look at it its pretty big and i know it has the 10 bolt cover. so please share your knowledge.

With 10 bolts it should be a 8 1/4 in your A-body.

The 8-1/4 rear is pretty good for a car with 318 or 360 with less than 400 HP. If it doesn't have sure-grip, the gears and posi units from almost any year 8-1/4 will work including from Dakota pickups. Good luck and enjoy your ride.

You just have to be careful with the carrier unit when changing ratios! I think 2.45 is the split, but I'm not a 100%.
