8 1/4 swap works. 8 3/4 can get expensive. Another option is what I'm doing, a Ford 8 inch. Ford guys swap them out for the 9 inch, but they are plenty strong enough for a slant six, moderate small block. Have to do some looking, but they are almost a "bolt in" swap to a Mopar "A" body, and parts are readily available.
The one I'm using is from a 1975 Maverick/Comet with a V-8. Spring perch is 43 inches, width flange/flange is 56 3/8 inches, 5x4 1/2 bolt pattern, and 10 x 1 3/4 brakes. Need to either modify the end of the driveshaft to take a Ford U-joint, or mix and match two u-joints to use the stock drive shaft. I'm not sure, yet, but it looks like the mopar e-brake cables will work.
PS: I'm going to be running 4:30 gears with a mini spool.

hi im new and i need a an 8 1/4 or an 8 3/4 for my 1964 dart blew up my 7 1/4 twice so time to upgrade

Are you sure you want a A Body 8 1/4? It’s LBP which would be fine if you have or planning to upgrade your front brakes to LBP.

All stock A Body 8 3/4’s are SBP which would match, I assume, your front brakes are. I’ll send you a PM concerning the 8 3/4

4.30s you must leave like a rocket and top out at 45 mph

Confused this with a drag build thread. Ford 8, another vote for price. If you could find a 7.25 SG, they are much stronger than the peg legs.

Even if you could find a 7 1/4 SG rear, it is almost impossible to find parts to repair, or maintain it. Ask me how I know.
I ran 7 1/4's for many years. Street and strip with slicks and nitrous. Never broke one. Did have to replace the clutches, once in awhile. I even had a 5.13 SG piece.

just got a lead on an 8 in out of a 1965 mustang will it fit???
64-66 Mustang is 57 3/8 inches flange to flange (wheel mounting). "A" body is 55.6 inches. Not sure of the spring perch. You will need to measure. "A" body perches are 43 inch. Make sure of the bolt pattern. Some 8 in rears had 4 lugs, not 5.

yeah some one south of me is paring it out looks like it was a race car project that never got finished plus title loss in ca is no big deal its super easy to get a title for a car here but evryone acts like its a huge pain if i had to guess thats the reason for the part out cuz like most cars around hear its complete
